This year Walk to School Week is on the 19th-23rd May. BASii is encouraging children and their parents or carers to take part. At Bruton Primary we are organising ‘Walking Buses’ from different areas of the town. For the five days groups of families will meet at a designated time and walk to school together, picking up more families along the way. At home time the walking buses will return along the same routes. Parents will still be responsible for getting their own children to and from school safely, however the walking buses will allow everyone to have an enjoyable walk to school together and encourage those who would normally use the car to walk instead. The walking-bus routes and timetables will be displayed in the school playground.
On Tuesday the 20th of May, there will be an after-school walk supporting a 20mph speed limit in Bruton. Children, parents and supporters of a 20mph limit will be walking from Bruton’s Schools and meeting in Lower Backway near the stepping stones. Here our local artists will judge and award prizes (sponsored by local businesses) for the best ‘Road Sign’ – click here for more details of the competition. Please get involved by joining us on the walk, creating a road sign and/or (if you’re a local business) sponsoring a prize.
